
This composition makes sapphires one of the hardiest of precious stones, meaning they are a great choice for a ring designed to last a lifetime. As the conditions during each transformation process are different due to changes in the environment, the resulting sapphires vary greatly in size, colour and clarity. Crystals form from the minerals present when the corundum rock begins to cool. Scientifically, sapphires are known as corundum, which is the name of the igneous rock they come from. Like all precious gemstones, sapphires are formed deep within the earth’s crust under intense conditions. The gemstone also has a long standing association with royalty, which only adds to its desirability and stature.

The stone is known for its rich blue colour, however, sapphires can come in a multitude of other shades, including pink, yellow, orange and more.īlue sapphires are by far the most popular, giving off an appeal that is sophisticated, luxurious and incredibly chic and stylish. My friends and family have been instantly wowed by the ring: 'crazy beautiful' is just one of their responses! I'd also like to emphasise that the whole team at HK seem to me very professional and really lovely. I'm not an overly materialistic person but this is something I will treasure forever.

I can't emphasise enough how much the process of this creation has added to the ring itself. Throughout, Beth patiently guided me and created perfect solutions until we arrived at a design and stone (a green sapphire) that is now a reality. Suddenly I wasn't only choosing a ring, but designing something with layer upon layer of meaning and, oddly, learning about myself and my fiancé along the way: about the symbols that mean more to us than others, and why the colour that had to be a part of it as opposed to those that I simply found attractive.
